Four Year Room | 4-5 years
We believe children learn best through play.
We have two, four/five-year-old classrooms. The ratio in our four-year-old rooms is 1:12. Each room can have a total of 24 children with two teachers. Our four-year-old classrooms have a set schedule each day; however, the schedule can differ slightly between the two rooms. In the Fall, we will be starting a new curriculum called Learning Without Tears. We have worked hand in hand with Kindergarten teachers in the Ankeny Community School District to develop our own Lil’ Tots Curriculum to make sure your children are ready for Kindergarten.
At Ankeny Lil’ Tots, we believe children learn best through play. Most of our learning experiences come from teacher-directed centers and educational games. We work on writing and identifying upper and lower case letters, writing and recognizing numbers 1-20, counting by 5’s and 10’s, identifying and drawing shapes, identifying colors, sorting and patterns, Dolch sight words, self-help skills, and so much more. We assess each child twice a year to see what they have learned throughout the year. Once assessments are complete, we then provide an opportunity for families to schedule a conference with their child’s teacher.
Our three and 4/5-year old classrooms take turns going on a field trip each month. Some of our field trips have been going to the apple orchard, pumpkin patch, Science Center, movie theater, Playground for Kids, Pump it Up, Zoo, Botanical Gardens, and a picnic at the park
